Your Questions, Our Answers

► How to protect children against the sun’s harmful rays?
It is advisable not to expose babies and very young children to the sun.
Their pigmentation and immune systems are immature (insufficiently developed and thus less effective).
As a result, their sensitivity to the sun is far greater than with adults.

If however exposure is unavoidable, special attention should be paid to their protection:
  • keep them in the shade,
  • apply very high protection suncare,
  • ensure they wear a hat, sunglasses and clothing.

► Can I apply other Sisley skincare under my suncare?
Generally speaking, this isn’t necessary because Sisley Suncare products are very comprehensive.
But nothing prevents you from applying skincare under your suncare if you feel the need for extra comfort or if you wish to continue your daily skincare routine. It is however advisable to let the skincare penetrate fully before applying suncare. On the other hand, after exposure to the sun, always remember to apply an appropriate after-sun product, such as Sunleÿa Age Minimizing After-Sun Care.

► Can I use Sisley suncare products all year long to protect my skin?
Sisley Suncare products were not developed for that purpose.
We recommend using All Day All Year as a daily skincare. This genuine anti-free radical and UVA-UVB shield is formulated with encapsulated filters that do not penetrate the epidermis.

► Should I exfoliate my skin before going in the sun?
Ideally, you should not even exfoliate the skin in the entire month prior to exposure to the sun. When you expose your skin to the sun, it is important to stimulate the development of natural photo-protection: a tan and thickening of the stratum corneum. Yet when you exfoliate, you weaken the stratum corneum, which is thus contrary to the principle of protection. On the other hand, it is recommended to exfoliate the skin after your vacation to eliminate dead cells and maintain an even, luminous tan.

► Won’t high or very high protection sunscreens prevent me from tanning?
It is highly recommended, for some skin types and/or intense exposure conditions, to use “high” or “very high” sun protection. However, high sun protection combined with reasonable exposure to the sun does not prevent the skin from acquiring a tan, phototype permitting.

► Do self-tanning products provide sun protection?
No, absolutely not. Self-tanning products are intended solely to give the impression of a tan. This tanned appearance is due to the action of DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which colors the surface of the skin, without triggering the skin’s natural defense system. In the case of exposure to the sun, it is therefore essential to protect the skin with suncare suited to your skin type.

► Which sun protection is best suited to sun sensitive skin?
We recommend using very high protection for fair skin phototypes (1 or 2) that are extremely sensitive to the sun. Sun protection with a high or very high SPF, such as Facial Sunscreen SPF 50+ or Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30, re-applied very frequently (every two hours) from first exposure to the sun.

High protection suncare is also recommended in the case of strong sunshine or “extreme” conditions (tropics, glaciers, etc.).

A number of other complementary measures are also recommended.

► What should I do if I have pigmentation spots and want to go out in the sun?
As is the case with sun sensitive skin, Sisley recommends using very high protection such as Facial Sunscreen SPF 50+ or Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30, re-applied very frequently from first exposure to the sun.

After your vacation, we also recommend offering your skin a specific anti-brown spot treatment, such as Phyto-Blanc Clearing Essence with its unifying and lightening ingredients.

► I’m pregnant; should I go in the sun?
Pregnancy is a specific physiological state. For this reason, we recommend asking your family doctor who knows you well for personalized advice.

► Despite all my precautions, I’ve got sunburn, what can I do?
We recommend applying a specific soothing after-sun product, for example Sunleÿa Age Minimizing After-Sun Care or Restorative Facial Cream and Restorative Fluid Body Cream to soothe and nourish the skin. It is also advisable to avoid sun exposure until the sunburn has totally disappeared. Should you have any doubts, we recommend that you contact your family doctor.

► Are Sisley Suncare products waterproof?
Apart from the Sun Oil SPF 6 which is water resistant, none of the other Sisley Suncare products are waterproof. This should encourage you to renew their application every two hours and thus enjoy optimal protection all day long!
